A Cry for Help
Wendy Williams, the previous host of The Wendy Williams Show, was brought to the hospital after a note was observed being thrown out of the window of the assisted living facility where she resides. The note “Help! Wendy!!” triggered wellness check.
Police and Emergency Services
The New York Police were already notified of the event on Monday at approximately 11:15 a.m. Williams was spotted emerging from the ambulance being led by police officers. It is alleged that she was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital where she was given an evaluation to review her mental status to ascertain whether she can relinquish her guardianship.
The Controversy of Custody
Williams has been placed under financial guardianship since 2022, which has stirred some controversy. Her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, asserts that Williams is “suffering from cognitive defficiencies, permanently disables, and legally incapacitated.” But, Williams has publicly denied those claims saying, “I am NOT suffering from cognitive impairment. What I feel, though, is like I am imprisoned somewhere.”
Living Conditions and Isolation
As it currently stands, Williams has expressed her discontent relating to her living arrangements. For example, she lives alongside people who are fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, and ninety years which she describes as suffocating. Williams has described her surroundings in self-isolation by stating that, “I keep the door closed. I watch television. I listen to the radio. I look out the window. I sit here, and my life goes by.”
Public Appearances and Documentary Revelations
Earlier this January, Williams called during The Breakfast Club radio show with the intent of disputing her dementia diagnosis. Propelled by that are some claims of her appearing for the dockuseries being disoriented, belligerent and intoxicated. Later, she featured in a documentry on TubiTV, titled: TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy Williams, in which she revealed that she does not remember the last time she sought the services of a doctor.
Court Assigned Medical Assessment
After the radio interview with Morrisey and Williams, he requested for a new medical evaluation. It is clear that Williams is stating she hasn’t seen a doctor in months and does not know what medication she is being put on at the facility.
A Continued Struggle
The treatment that she alleges to have face for a entire life under guardianship has made her continue to unleash the fight for absolute independence. “This system is broken. This system has ridden a lot,” she said. While the legal battle is ongoing, she has significant support from the public, advocates, supporters who claim her mental state is deep enough to strategically choose the direction of her life.
Who Is Next In The Line For Wendy Williams?
She has not made any moves publicly but was set to attend a face to face meeting with the press which is set to air on ABC alongside other hosts on The View set to mark her return into daytime telly after years. With the recent attention drawn to celibrities hoping for privacy, it is highly unlikely that the hospitalization will change everything. With ongoing legal battles sideshows being set up and media unusually interested, Wendy Williams attention seems set to continuous.
