Shifting the global technological paradigm, Artificial Intelligence has seemingly become the future. The integration of Siri into Apple products was a developmental milestone for the firm in 2011; sadly, they are now far behind the likes Amazon and Google. Although Apple has attempted to redesign Siri’s software, their biggest hurdle is providing comprehensive AI functioning assistance.
The Long Road to a Smarter Siri
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that Apple is currently working on providing a newer modern version of Siri. Unfortunately, users will not encounter a fully conversational AI until atleast the launch of iOS 20 in 2027. Although some features may become available sooner than that, Apple’s technological journey is full of delays, internal obstacles, and competition.
The AI powered features were incorporated Apple Intelligence and the purpose was to boost Siri’s functionalities. Unfortunately, the expectations related to the implementation haven’t been met. The staff at Apple is working towards an all new Siri architecture which would integrate and replace the previous command driven structure, but this planned change has been very slow to unfold.
What’s Coming Before 2027?
Reports hint that Siri will receive an update in May 2025, along with the long-awaited features of Apple Intelligence. Additionally, a more sophisticated AI-driven version referred to inside the company as “LLM Siri” is scheduled to be revealed at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2025, with a full release anticipated in early 2026.
The Siri update has been leaked to have two distinct features dubbed as “two brains,” one capable of executing basic tasks such as setting an alarm, while the other possesses advanced capabilities alongside user data. Apple’s aim is to streamline all of these functionalities into an AI system that works seamlessly.
Apple’s AI Problems: Lack of Direction and Hardware Problems
Despite Apple having an abundance of resources, their AI development has been stalled by some severe headwinds that remain unsolved:
Lack of Hardware: Developing an AI requires powerful hardware, and it appears Apple has been failing to source the requisite equipment to scale their models.
Lack of Vision: Ineffective leadership of Apple’s AI unit has resulted in a huge loss of engineers to competing firms.
Getting Overtaken: While Apple works to improve the features of Siri, Amazon and Google seem to be working towards new AI innovations at a much faster pace, with Alexa+ already in early access testing.
Can Apple Come Back In The Race for AI?
Technology and all its innovations are growing at a staggering rate. With Apple, Siri has reported no advancements for several years. The AI speech assistants are growing more efficient with each passing day, and Apple’s carelessness could have unfavorable outcomes in the time to come.
Apple has so far been taking heat for not being able to match the standards set by Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. The newest upgrades set to come out for Siri will be scrutinized minutely. If Apple cannot perfect these features, then its standing as one of the appointed leaders in technology during this transitional phase will be questionable.

In regards to Apple’s progress in AI technology, the statement issued in 2020 about Siri incorporates no features that make it smarter, shows Apple’s lacking performance and standing in comparison to other innovative companies. The changes expected in 2025 and 2026; while being major improvements, will not bring forth a fully operational CAI powered Siri until 2027.
